Years: Families and Food

Through 10 seasons, Clintonville Farmers' Market has been about families and food....About our own families and farm families and the local food that connects us. Here is some history:

 - Lynne and Roger Genter begin the market with 6 producers. High Street businesses provide frontage for the market and it runs 7 weeks. Branstool's Orchard was present that season and is still coming in 2012. Local firm, attaché, designs the market logo and poster.  Melissa Goodrich begins her work on the board.

 - Running 20 weeks, Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce, other local businesses, and a core of market volunteers and board members get behind the effort. Clintonville Community Fund provides start-up funds. A CFM yellow bag is sold.

- Now 25 weeks, High Street construction diverts the market to the COVA parking lot for much of the season. The market produces a cookbook for sale. Fun includes an ice cream social, vintage tractor display and an October "Day On the Farm."

 - The board hires a market manager. AutoZone, new to Dunedin & High invites the market to the south side of their parking lot. The market expands educational activities and holds the first "Farmer Appreciation Day" and first "Harvest Market."

 - The market collaborates with the CRC food pantry in food donations, holds a cookbook signing, and increases the number of chef demonstrations of market food.

- Growing to 26 weeks, the market organizes the first "Spring Sprout Day," brings baby lambs with Slate Run Farm, has a famed chef at "Farmer Appreciation Day," welcomes Global Gallery onsite, and conducts market research in conjunction with OSU.

 - This year, the market adds a visit to the Ohio State Fair to 28 weeks. Farm visits increase, guidelines are tightened, producer workshops are added, and the board expands. Market producer space increases in the Donatos area.

An off-duty officer and street closing of Dunedin begin. Farmers from Tajikistan volunteer one day. The first founder's day is held and the market sends 3 (invited) delegates to Slow Food's Terra Madre in Italy. Earlier in the season, the market holds a Producer Food Safety meeting and Food Labeling workshop for the public and the first producer food safety workshops are required. "Clintonville Cans" is held in the summer.

 - The market grows to 76 producers over 28 weeks. Friends of the Market and the Kids' Garden Club are founded. The USDA approves CFM for EBT and the market adds debit tokens. A $1000 grant from ODA helps set up the EBT (food stamp) program. New graphics are implemented in all signage.

  - Non-profit charitable 501c3 status is awarded the market. A $2000 matching grant from Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation promotes consumer/producer connection, a bike corral is added, Farm & Kitchen Tours are organized, and the 8 week Slow Down Wednesday market is in session....And 10 seasons are celebrated!
